I recently started using ProtonVPN and I noticed when I activate the VPN from the web app, it went from 400mbps to like around 60 ~ 70mbps with the VPN on.
However, when I turn it on from the web extension, it still goes like 300mbps.
Is it because of the firewall stuff? I have Kaspersky but I added Proton’s some exe apps to trusted app lists.
Can someone explain why this happens?
kaspersky sucks the life out of your computer is so many ways
why are you using that?
OP what do you mean by “web app”? Protonvpn has browser extensions clients, desktop clients and mobile app clients. There’s no mention of a web app anywhere I can see, I’ve no idea how’d it even work
Try disabling the HTTPS scanning of your AV
I didn’t know ProtonVPN has web app? Can you point me to it?
Hi! If you’d like, please contact us through the ‘Report an issue’ option in the Proton VPN client menu and send us the logs, so our technical support team can investigate further.
VPN speeds can be dependent on many factors such as current server load, geographical distance from your location, connection protocol etc. This article has some tips on improving VPN speeds.
What protocol and using same servers?
really
but it’s pretty good like you can encrypt files or folders and its scanning and other stuff are working very well.
what would you recommend to switch to?
not web app, it’s desktop clients
my bad
I did but didn’t change ;(
Wireguard and yes same servers
In terms of an anti virus, windows defender is plenty. In terms for encrypting, I prefer VeraCrypt. It can make encrypted folders or encrypt entire drives.
What settings do you use for the desktop clients?
The desktop clients will try to encrypt everything leaving your machine, the browser extension only does it for the browser.
I would expect the difference to be smaller though
I only see app that I need to download.
Isn’t “web app” an “app” that runs on the web without you having to download or install anything?
I’m not sure whether I’m the one not understanding what a “web app” is, or you are?
Shucks well I have no idea! Figured that would be a good start lol
i use openVPN (TCP) since WireGuard is super slow which is supposed to be faster than openVPN but somehow it’s so slow on my machine. also, i only turn on kill switch since i use Brave as a browser and malware shit my AV just blocks everything so.
- The desktop clients will try to encrypt everything leaving your machine
I see. but is it normal going down from 400mbps to like 60mbps?
Yeah a web app is an app that runs on the web, so you need to access it through your browser. A download is just an app.
wym???
it literally shows which platform you use and web app includes apps that you install on your local
Correct me if I’m wrong but if the smart protocol is used then it hops between TCP and UDP…the slower speeds may be due to the difference in verification of TCP versus UDP. I know that TCP is more secure than UDP, could this relate to faster speeds as well?
