Why should I use a proxy if I can change my IP

I want my location to be un detected when using socal media for some posting and target audience reasons and people are telling me to buy there proxy but I thought why not just change whole pc IP
So. Is it possible to change your IP without getting ban or detected your real ip address from social media and is it better to not use a proxy and Just change the IP address or use a proxy instead

Wrong subreddit.
However to answer your question:

In general, there are two types of IP addresses. Let’s call them public and private.

The private IP address is your device IP on your local network, (all of the devices that are connected to your WiFi/router will have a private IP address for them) this address is only for devices in your local network and cannot be reached from the internet. When you say you can change your IP from your computer, this is what you can change.

Your private IP address has nothing to do with your public IP. What determines your Public IP is your internet service provider and you have no control over it. You can’t change it to what you like because just like car number plates, they are pre assigned to organisations and those organisations get to hand them out.

So to target a different audience on the internet, you will need to change your PUBLIC IP address.

How does this work?

Simple,

Your traffic with your real IP address —> Internet service provider —> VPN/Proxy server → destination

So, because the traffic goes through a VPN/proxy server, your IP address will be that servers public IP instead of your own.

Hit me up if you have any other questions.

Holy Kow gave a very good explanation on IP. But we also need to understand fingerprinting. There are other ways to identify you besides your IP. The big companies use this to profile you so they can target you with ads. Ever notice these being similar even when you are visiting a different location? Your IP changed but your fingerprint did not. Just something to think about when talking about social media.

your pc IP is private IP which is like room service number in hotel room and public IP which is provided by your ISP to you and traced back to you is unique like your 10 digit mobile number .

no no point in hiding the private (pc ) IP.
Public IP is the one you should be masking with help of vpn . there are free vpn available if you don’t wanna pay for vpn.

example openvpn.net

Weil’s doppelt so gut ist.

Anything you are doing now is not going to outrun the warrant you are trying to hide from currently.
PS. seriously op is a new account.

Using a proxy server helps hide ur real IP address, making u more private online. It can also protect u from harmful websites, let u access content that might be blocked in ur area, and make ur internet faster by storing frequently visited pages. It’s safer n more efficient internet use.

Anw, you need to find out reliable proxies provider. Im using 9Proxy for my multi tasks, kinda ok till now. It’s cheap also haha that’s why I choose this.

Changing your IP directly can work, but proxies offer more flexibility and privacy, especially for managing multiple accounts. Plus, proxies help mask your real IP continuously, which can be safer in the long run.

Changing your IP works but isn’t as reliable for social media targeting. DutaProxy offer stable, location-specific IPs and reduce the risk of bans or detection. Better choice for your needs

So here’s a little secret abt anonymity, if you are in United States jurisdiction or anywhere else that extradites to the US then well it’s quite impossible to stay anonymous from LE if they want you bad enough. At the end of the day the goal is to make it as complicated and confusing as possible for someone to find you. That’s why ppl will recommend proxy chains (keyword chains) or routing thru tor as opposed to one layer of separation. If you wanna go overkill tho the elite option is to get a vps with monero and have that be your exit point

Nice well explained …

So you never changing your Public IP (bc as you said you can’t) but basically when you using vnp or proxy you just adding additional layer so the “Internet” is not seeing your “original Public IP”
Am I understanding this correctly?

Just to add your ISP does change your public IP occasionally but not in way that would make your location anonymous. Just like your home router automatically assigns dynamic IPs your ISP also has DHCP leases and your public IP is likely not a static IP.

If you’re connected through mobile data you’ll more than likely be sharing an IP with other users and it will be changing constantly but again just because it changes doesn’t mean they can’t identify you. The simple act of your public IP changing doesn’t change your location or prevent them from knowing you’re the same person even though your IP changed.

If I had unlimited money and time, is there a way to see someone’s actual ip through a proxy or vpn?

According to my knowledge

1st
we can disable fingerprinting if we’re surfing through the web Browser

2nd
we can use anon-surf if you are using linux like Ubuntu etc.
It just takes us through the tor services and passes our connectivity through tor nodes.
I think he can make himself anon using this also don’t forget to change it after an interval or you can also automated it with the help of scheduling and coding languages like python etc…

Is OP of this comment downvoted so much because something he said is not true or something else? I think that you can’t really hide these days besides not using any smart electronic device like a laptop, phone, TVs with wifi

Spot on. The VPN/Proxy server will still be able to see your real IP if they log information.

Your public IP does change occasionally, but it isn’t in your control unless you work for your ISP. The new Ip address is still associated with the same location as your previous one though.

I know it’s a figure of speech when youre saying unlimited.
The level of resources you are describing matches of a triple letter agency NSA, FBI, CIA… and yes all of those will be able to find you if they want to.
There are a few that seem to be free but again, when time is a factor you are running from death and those agencies.
One of those will catch you.

Look up Lockbit, it’s a (likely) russian backed ransomware group, they have been fucking around with the US government for a while.

You can’t turn off fingerprinting. You can’t disable a fingerprint on your finger, same goes with your browser. There’s no option to turn off fingerprinting, because your fingerprint includes your browser’s settings, version, OS, etc. The website you’re visiting sees those settings and makes your fingerprint. When you visit another site, it does the same, and then the ad providers on that site see that they have already encountered the same fingerprint. Then they feed you ads about content they have linked with that fingerprint. You can only change settings to make your fingerprint same as another one that lots of people use (e.g default settings on a browser).
