You could try to change the server after connecting. I got US on 3rd change and Japan sometimes. There’s a small time limit for changing the server.
I see lot of downvotes. I see people justifying nothing has changed its still good. But there exist some people like me who were depending on US server for some stuff and Netherlands for other and Japan for else . (Netflix , crunchyroll , Disney etc) And proton was a godsend for these and free. Now it only connects to Romania for me :D. I get it its still encypted and helps with protection. But I just wanted country hopping
How did you get the new app look? Mine still shows the old style and there are no updates available in the Apple App Store.
Also you can’t split tunnel anymore
For me it’s the increased amount of capches… almost every time I go in browser
If it meets your needs, it’s a great free option without making you and your information the form of payment. If you need more, the paid options are excellent and support a privacy focused company.
I live in South Asia It usually randomly goes to JP and Poland, Romania where the fiber cable under the red sea broke causing the speed to drop to only 2-10mbps ping over 380ms. I don’t really like the JP server. It has Japanese ads, I don’t understand that language. Of course I will shut up because I am a beggar waiting for freebies. After the update I deleted the app and 2 days later I reloaded it due to the no logs policy, but I’m still not sure about this policy.
Just adding my two cents here, as I have a paid email account that includes limited (free) vpn connections which I got used to for about a year. I could choose a region from a limited selection and that was fine. I paid for my plan renewal and then found they changed the process on defaulting to the fastest connection without the ability to choose. I would have liked some sort of advance notice of what was changing before I paid as I would have done things differently - in that I would have changed plans.
No, people who are not broke buy it for lifetime. Perhaps you’re broke?
It’s a big downside. I’m on western Europe and it keeps connecting me to Japan and it’s so slow it’s unusable. The algorithm they use is broken in the new update
think it was to do with the current government elections and votings happening across the globe, to tackle the censored information about what’s happening in each particular country right now🤷♀️
Is it still safe to use tor with this vpn? I usually use the USA servers since they were onion supported but now I’m not sure…
Yes, make sense from the business point of view. Do you think it would hurt that if they would implement some sort of time limit for each country?
Then why did they get rid of split tunneling
I’ve noticed it too, especially later at night, used to consistently see like 90% Server load on Free, even late at night, now it’s like 60-70% ish, not to mention the fact they don’t sell your data is pretty awesome. At some point I’ll join the subscription when I have the financial means to pay for another subscription.
Note that using Proton VPN Free plan for streaming is against our Terms of Service. You can only stream on specific servers created for this purpose, and they are (and have always been) available only to paying users: https://protonvpn.com/support/streaming-guide/
No this is a ridiculous take and isn’t a normal and/or wanted behavior. Please contact the support team if you have such an issue happening.
That’s not expected behavior. Please contact us through the ‘Report an issue’ option in the app menu so we can look into it further.
Currently, we’ve updated the UI on the Android app only. The new design will come to other apps in the future too. You can learn more about what we have planned for the future here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comments/1bc60j2/whats_coming_up_for_proton_vpn/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
So use another free VPN service then, or start paying for Proton, so it can become even better than it already is.
