Windows 11 is getting a VPN status indicator in the taskbar

Yeah. It has been uncovered last week. It’s a fine addition, especially when some VPNs aren’t displaying their icon in the taskbar.

Unfortunately, there are some limitations to the new feature, as it only works when connecting to VPNs configured using the built-in Windows 11 client and does not work with WiFi.

So it is useless…

doesn’t sound too much, just a padlock overlay on the network icon

still a good thing though

I don’t mind this feature. Sometimes I’ll be using surfshark and accidentally close the program while the VPN is still connected, so it’s nice to know whether or not it is in that case.

Finally. I’ve been using rainmeter to show my vpn status in the taskbar for years.

I was wondering this as well… what if you’d use any third party vpn like openvpn, secuextender, sophos vpn, SonicWall GVC. would any of them show an indicator on the network icon?
