Wireguard Windows 11 App disappears from tray. And, if I try to launch it from the Start Menu, it says "Error - Manager already installed and running."

Anybody else experience this issue?

I have experienced it in windows 10. It seems to happen when I’ve closed it while it was trying to connect or disconnect. If you go in to task manager and track down it’s background process and end it you can then restart it.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? In Windows 11, the problem occurs regularly. It’s easier for me to install some Dante or Openvpn than the glitchy Wiregurad.

I have this problem occasionally on different machines (W10/W11) with Wireguard 0.5.3 - not sure when or why it happens. I hope there will be a permanent fix at some time…

I now tend to uninstall and reinstall wireguard on machines where this happens, but I’m not sure this is actually a fix because it happens so sporadically.

^ This.

Minor correction here that I only bring up in case new users stumble across this post, but WireGuardManager is technically a service, so you won’t find it under Processes, but rather the Services tab:

How to Fix WireGuard “Manager already installed and running” Error in Windows

Has anyone ever identified a root cause for this? I’ve only had this problem occasionally so I’ve never been able to pin it down.

2 years later and your still helping random people like me, thanks nerd x x :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Link doesn’t work any more but the problem still persists! The way I got round this on Windows 11 was to open up Task Manager in the Services tab, find the WireGuardManager service and try and restart that. It will take a few minutes, but then the Start Menu icon started working again for me. Good luck!

Did you ever find a way to solve/recreate the problem?

Nope, but that’s probably because my workflow has changed. I split tunnel and as a result, I rarely ever manually connect/disconnect from WireGuard anymore.
