I am home right now for winter break and I’ve been having issues with the Wi-Fi here the whole time. websites take forever to load (but work fine once loaded), I cant use TeamViewer or remote desktop at all, and Minecraft in particular was having issues joining servers.
today I connected to a VPN for totally legal reasons and even though it took a few minutes to get a connection started, once I was connected all the internet issues went away completely.
I don’t know enough about networking to understand why this is happening, does anyone happen to know the answer?
It could be that the VPN’s firewall settings are overriding your systems, could be that the server you connected to supports a 10gb connection >!(even though your ISP prob doesn’t support this it opens up your bandwidth)!< it can be a number of reasons.
People don’t just use VPN’s for illegal activity, i personally use mine for the privacy aspect (not a fan of companies tracking me from site to site making a profit for what I do online)
Edit; btw Discord > TeamViewer
by system do you mean the network? my computer never has any connection issues when im at school, which i would assume has more security than our home network that my dad doesnt know how to set up.
my only guess is that maybe our router or ISP is doing extra checks on new connections then ignoring them after the connection is made, which would allow the VPN to act as a tunnel of sorts.
