Are all addons safe?

Im thinking about adding some addons to my Firefox.

Are all addons safe? If not, how do i know what addons are safe?

when applying to add an add-on tk the Firefox store the add-on is tested for security but that doesn’t mean all add-ons are 100% safe.

if your really worried try to use ones that have the ‘recommended’ badge or the one that are popular.

I’d stick with ones you trust and have a decent number of installs. I’m not sure how much scrutiny they really go through.

There’s an approval process for extensions, but the last couple updates I’ve published for the extension I made have been published before I’m even done filling out everything in my submission (there’s a couple forms/steps, upload the extension, attach source code, give notes to the person reviewing the code etc), so they can’t have really looked at it that closely.

Experiment with all the Recommended Extensions to your heart’s content, but if I can share my favorite extensions without the Recommended Badging…

and Firefox Multi Account Containers.

No, they aren’t. I’ve myself found several addons that were basically a mechanism to inject affiliate codes in your browsing sessions while pretending to just offer some other feature. They were still there several months after being reported.

It’s hard to say which ones are good. You can normally check the source code but that requires time and expertise. In general, check if it has a large user base and user reviews don’t mention anything dodgy.

Although just because its popular doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily good.

good or safe?

if it’s popular it goes under monitoring from Mozilla so most likely it’s safe. but yeah not necessarily especially if it connects to a data base. at the end you just got to have some trust
that’s for sure.

but in most cases I don’t think it’s a problem.
