I need a basic laptop that can run excel and teams for work. I really know nothing about computers so need something cheap, ideally below $400 but I don’t want something low quality. Any ideas where to start? I do not want a mac
Dude I will suggest you to at least go for ‘HP Pavilion 15.6″ FHD Laptop’ with 16GB ram and Ryzen 5 processor. It will cost you $500. You can get 8GB variants for below $400. But when you will have to run multiple tabs at once, you will face a tough time using a 8GB RAM. The laptop I recommended will be suitable for Excel, Teams meetings and also light graphical task.
If you choose to buy it, please buy it through the amazon link on this post of mine: Best laptops for office work and business under $1000 (reddit.com).

I need more information. Is it for only working on a local lan at work or for taking documents home to update? If it is take home, do you have VPN to work from home? Is this a BYOD situation or trying to meet a corporate/workplace standard goal? Meaning, is it just for yourself or for others? Lastly, if you buy a cheap laptop that is going to store documents locally, you need a backup plan. It can be as simple as a USB memory fob, but I prefer to use VPN to some server running Office if the files have to stay secure. If you can run cloud services from Microsoft you have more options. For all of it, I prefer to run something really cheap that can VPN and run nomachine to a server that doesn’t matter if it gets destroyed or stolen. You can use just about anything in that case. A Chrome Book, MacBook Air, RaspBerry PI, Windows, etc. Probably even an Amazon Fire tablet.
It’s mainly just for learning power bi
