BBC iPlayer services not playing on Google home with DD-WRT, Proton VPN configured with Wireguard

I moved to the Wireguard protocol on my DD-WRT router with ProtonVPN.

that is all working fine but i cannot use the BBC iPlayer service on Google Home.

I understand that BBC block people on VPNs but is there a way around it with configuration in DD-WRT?

My flat is too quiet without the radio

Why don’t you use policy based routing to exclude the Google home? Unless you are not in the UK?

Try a different UK location. Also see if open VPN works instead?

If the bbc is blocking known VPN exits/hosts then using a different device to build and maintain the vpn isn’t going to change the fact they are blocking the end point.

But as you are in the UK you could split tunnel or otherwise not use the vpn for iplayer - at yes the loss of the privacy aspect, but then I’m doubting iplayer is the thing you are wanting to keep private. Perhaps I’m wrong.

I wanted to update this as have fixed it in the tunnel config by using policy based routing and giving my google home a static IP. I can now easily route the google home via the WAN not the VPN. Thanks for the help!

Open VPN did not work either and was slower then Wireguard.

Will try a different location. I am based in the UK and using a UK server for privacy purposes.

Glad policy based routing worked
