Before you rush in to support Ya Kun
Everyone saw this apology coming from a mile away. From a business standpoint it’s either issue an apology (at no cost to the company) or stand your ground and get harassed to the point you’re forced to withdraw from China. No company in their right mind would choose the latter.
any translation for the CLB dudes
Do check the Ya Kun website again, the letter seems to have mysteriously changed to remove the controversial line about Taiwan being part of the PRC http://yakun.com/images/uploads/media/Ya_Kun_Statement_Final_-_17_Oct_2021.png
That last line is so damn bitter to taste.
The issue of Taiwan is ranked No.1 in PRC core interests. Any individual or business that give the impression that Taiwan is a country is as good as giving up the Chinese market.
A lot of the American businesses that claims to be standing up for human rights or whatever democracy beliefs will just change their tone when doing business in the Greater China region. Even SIA also classify Taiwan under China.
Like it or not, money comes first for 99% of the businesses out there. Beliefs ain’t important unless they deliver profits.
This is so sad. Alexa play 玻璃心
The apology letter was fine, but that last line drove me into the warm, caffeinated arms of Toastbox.

Dear consumers:
Yakun has placed a lot of importance in the incorrect information aired in our promotional video in a China Ya Kun store. We’d also like to thank our Nanjing consumer for pointing out our mistake in time. Our company has immediately conducted an internal review. This was a video filmed by a third-party company in 2013. This is a severe mistake by our internal department, who did not check every frame in the video and add “China” in front of the area, “Taiwan”. And thus, we have hurt all consumers’ feelings. We are deeply reflecting on our mistakes, and we’ve deleted all relevant videos at once. We are extremely sorry and guilty for making this severe mistake which shouldn’t have happened, and we would like to apologise to the public sincerely.
Our company clearly and firmly stands by the “One China” policy. Taiwan is an inseparable part of the PRC!

Um … I can understand if it is a country, why force Ya Kun to go public with this in the first place? They are a private enterprise no?
i think the last line is quite problematic.
The ‘one-china’ consensus is agreed upon by BOTH the PRC and the ROC, both parties agreed that there’s only ‘one-china’…the difference is between their intepretations of ‘what is china’ (PRC or ROC)…that is the general gist of the '92 consensus. This is something that singapore (or literally every country in the UN) agrees upon.
Be it as it may though, logically speaking…the CCP did won the Chinese Civil War against the KMT Nationalists so if we are to follow the ‘winners take all’ approach, then yes…China is governed by the CCP and Taiwan is part of China. (just like in the US Civil War, the confederates losed against the Republicans). We may not like the CCP but the rules of the game cannot be change just because of our ‘feelings’. CCP did won the Civil War, rightfully or wrongfully (as if it matters in war).
Back to the issue of this statement by Ya Kun though, they could have just concludes by saying they believe in the ‘one-china’ rule without the need to state that Taiwan is part of the PRC (that sentence in chinese specifically stated ‘PRC’ instead of ‘China’). That’s overpandering.
Also, China is really getting annoying without the need to complain about everything. Even me, a self-professed ‘middle-minded’ person that i am (i am neither pro or against the PRC or ROC, as far as i am concern, CCP won the Civil war, that’s the legitimacy that they need to govern china if i am to be honest) is sick and annoyed of the constant complaining and whining from the PRC about every little thing. Like c’mon, grow a pair of balls and some confidence and don’t have to think everyone is conspiring against you and learn to laugh at yourself sometimes. Every little thing also need to complain and ban/censor. When even moderates like me are annoyed, you know you got a problem.
chinese netizens are the worst.
Are people actually expecting Yakun kaya toast to lead a revolution?
Ya Kun could’ve just apologised and stopped at the first paragraph. As an outsider and non-political entity, they should not meddle with foreign politics and say what they said in the second paragraph
