Bitdefender Total Security or GravityZone for home use ( although I do have a dormant LLC)

Hi,

It’s time to renew my BD Total Security.

I maintain my own network and hardware firewall at home; there’s 2 laptops on which BD-TS is now installed. One Win10 & one Win11.

A 2 seat license for GravityZone actually seems cheaper than a renewal of BD-TS. I don’t use BD-TS’s VPN, nor its iOS / Android web security ( I VPN back into my home firewall).

Any reason why I shouldn’t switch to GZone?

Thanks.

Where are you able to purchase gravityzone for home use

You lose some consumer features (vpn, password safe, their special little web browser, etc) and you need to manage policies and settings with their GravityZone. The Endpoint Client doesn’t give you and settings.

But if you can deal with these restrictions, GravityZone is great. I use if for my own home use (for my windows client, Linux server and my android devices) and I see no reason not to use GZ

I decided to just keep using BD Total.

You go to into the Enterprise Category on Bitdefenders homepage and then go to “Platform” → “GravityZone Packages” → “Small Business Security” (or just follow this link: GravityZone Small Business Security - Bitdefender )

There you select how many devices you want to protect, click on “Buy now” and then, when you enter your payment details, you select “I’m an individual” at the top of the page.

Also, just in general, you can buy most services meant for Businesses as a home user. Bitdefender makes this quite easy with just selecting, that your are an individual instead of a company. But for services which require you to input your company (like when you buy Microsoft Windows Enterprise), you can just pull a non existent company name out of your ass and just input your regular home address, email and telephone number. These company names are not getting verified (unless you try to buy, for example, military systems).

In most cases it’s actually harder to know that a certain software meant for businesses exist, than to buy it. These solutions are not really advertised to consumers.

But one thing to keep in mind: if you buy solutions meant for buisnesses (and I think that also goes for GravityZone, even if you select “individual”), you are generally treated as if you are a business. So it is assumed that you know what you are doing (no handholding even if systems get quite complex and techical) and some normal consumer protections don’t apply for these purchases.
