Check your paypal/credit card statement for GoldenFrog/Vyprvpn charges (Humble Software Bundle: Up Your Game! July 2018)

I got VyprVpn last year in July in the “Humble Software Bundle: Up Your Game!”- free for a year. It required a method of payment, so I added my Paypal information.

Tried/Activated VyprVPN in October 2018, decided I don’t really need it and cancelled the service on August 3rd.
Got a confirmation by email and my account info also stated unequivocally that I had successfully unsubscribed from the service.

On Sep 27th my Paypal was charged $60.00 from Goldenfrog. When trying to contact customer support, I was greeted by a notification stating that they were having problems with “erroneous charges” and were working on it. Still went through customer support to have the charge reversed immediately, which thankfully worked out fine. I also specifically asked to remove my payment information from my account data. They promised to forward that request to the account administrator.

On October 14th, my account was charged AGAIN for $60.00. Did the whole dance again to get a refund. The “We’re currently dealing with erroneous charges” notification was still up 3 weeks after I first contacted them. Draw your own conclusions as to how trustworthy this is for a company selling security/privacy solutions.

TL;DR: If you got the HB “Up your game” software bundle in July 2018, signed up for VyprVPN and cancelled the service, check your payment statements for “erroneous charges”.

If you log into your paypal account, you should be able to view what automatic payments you’ve made and de-authorize this company so they can’t bill you again. (account settings → payments → manage automatic payments)

I just found out I’ve been charged 60 USD every two years since 2021 when I first trailed this service. during this time my debit card was reissued and I did not update it on Vyper’s website. but after I found out that I got charged again with the latest card expiration date which I have never updated on their website!
so dodgy

I appreciate your feedback and I also want to explicitly mention your customer support was very helpful and sorted out the issue quickly both times. However, this should not have happened in the first place, and most certainly not twice (despite me asking to remove my payment details from my account to prevent exactly that).

I think you can cancel their authorization from paypal account. and then they shouldn’t be able to charge you.
