Currently having this issue on a Pixel 6 Pro. Been going on for a couple of weeks now, am on the latest version of ExpressVPN. I have disabled it for the time being until they resolve this.
Lately, I’ve been having the same issue happen to my Pixel 6 Pro. I think there’s some miscommunication between VPNs and the Android OS because I’ve tried NordVPN, Google VPN and Express VPN. And the same thing happens with all three VPNs. I noticed this started happening after the newest Android update. Before the update, my notifications had no issues.

Possibly could be an android system issue turning off sync when a VPN is present?
I am sure google does not like the situation of keeping our data from the funnel of their ad revenue.
Setting battery optimisation for the app to optimised or unrestricted helped for a little bit, then it’s been back on the same. Hope they fix that soon.
Had the same problem as everyone else for weeks if not over a month on S22+
v10.85.0 just released for me today. We’ll see if it fixes the issue.
Same issue for me I had a s10 and never had a problem but upgraded to a s23 a month ago and ever since then very late notifications.
I’ve got to turn off expressvpn to get them to come through
Had this problem over a month. I’ll change servers and see results for a day at best. Kinda irks me, considering I pay for a year at a time. Glad to see others are finally voicing similar problems confirming the VPN is the root cause as I had believed. Oh well. Good luck, everyone.
Samsung S20 Ultra here (TMobile carrier) was having the same issue and I turned off adaptive battery and that seemed to fix the issue. I am now receiving push notifications as they come.
Just recently started getting the same behavior. It used to work just fine.

Been working for me lately.
Somebody knows if the problem persists. I cancel the subscription and now I’m using Nord VPN but the download speed is very low compared to Express VPN.
It seems that the update from last week fixed it for some people, but for others like me it is still happening.
I have the S20 Ultra and same issue. Was hoping to find a solution even if the phones are not the same.
Unfortunately they told me the same thing over 2 weeks ago, and 2 updates ago.
I can’t think of anything else it could be since when I turn the VPN off I get all my notifications as they happen, and when I turn it back on all the notifications are delayed again.
Try looking into the Adaptive Battery settings. I was having the same issue as OP, and ran through some threads saying they turned that setting off, also had to go into each app’s battery setting and change it from Optimized to Unrestricted. Unfortunately Express VPN is definitely the culprit for me and OP, so I can’t say that changing the settings will work.
I’ve also opened a ticket and they have me trying various setting changes, but nothing has worked so far.
Well it’s good to hear that they are officially looking into it. They haven’t responded to my ticket since yesterday.
