Hi. I’m using PIA on tumbleweed. I’m pretty sure I just followed the steps on the website: Download the Best Linux VPN in 2025: Customizable GUI for Your Distro
Hey, please help me to install (insert random app here) I googled but it didn’t work besides that I will give you absolutely no information about any error logs, what kind of installation method or what I already tried.
Thanks!

Doesn’t tell us anything except that you’re using Tumbleweed and tried to install PIA VPN. That’s an important bit of clue, but not enough. “having very hard time” doesn’t tell us which install method you used, what the specific problem is or what is or is not working.
I looked up previous posts and tried!! it didn’t work at all…
Tried WHAT? Again, you’ve given us no clue as to what the problem is, what solutions you tried, or what the outcome of those efforts was. “it didn’t work at all” only tells us that you still have a problem, the specifics of which remain a mystery to us.
Please ENLIGHTEN ME
Not happening. You need to edit your OP and tell us what you did, what the result was, what you tried next to remedy the problem, what the result of that effort was, etc., etc. Including specific actions and errors is often the key to getting good answers. For example:
Thank you for your reply
ruunning TW 15.6 with Gnome desktop.
I just followed step below…download official .run RPM file from PIA web page
https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/bkewrm/official_pia_client_with_opensuse_tumbleweed/
but the official client does not open up at all…no response.
there is no message just nothing happens
thank you for heads up and read my post
Did you make the downloaded script executable using the chmod
command? A script can’t execute if it doesn’t have execute permissions.
It is not executable when you download it. Using ls -l [filename]
will show you the current permissions:
user@desktop:~/Downloads> ls -l pi*
-rw-r--r-- 1 user user 74504533 Jun 19 08:40 pia-linux-3.5.7-08120.run
But after you run sudo chmod +x pia-linux-3.5.7-08120.run
the file is now executable (note the “x’s” in the permissions below).
user@desktop:~/Downloads>sudo chmod +x pia-linux-3.5.7-08120.run
user@desktop:~/Downloads> ls -l pi*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 user user 74504533 Jun 19 08:40 pia-linux-3.5.7-08120.run
oh… did not command it out ls -l
Thank you very much!! will reply soon!!
moved from Fedora and did.not need to do ls -l though… will try soon!! very appreciates!!
moved from Fedora and did.not need to do ls -l
The ls
command can be configured for default behavior by using an alias in your ~/.bashrc
file. Some distros do configure it by default. However, I can confirm that the default behavior in Fedora 40 using either KDE or Gnome is the usual (default) ls
command, which shows only the file/folder names. Maybe you chaged it at some point?
Downloaded scripts are usually not executable and require that the user do chmod
to give them executable permissions.
very informative!! thank you!!
