I got Nordvpn with the impression that my internet wouldn’t suffer as much but that’s not the case both on my laptops and phones suffer from super slow speeds with NordVPN on. I get 1 third the speeds.
Any ideas or suggestions.

You might try LOGGING into a SERVER that is NOT in your city. I’m in LA, so the most obvious choice is to log into the server closest to me–LA. However, I’ve found that my LA speeds are too slow. Logging into a PHOENIX or UTAH (lower population/less internet congestion) I’ve gotten about 80-85% of my bandwidth speed. Major metropolitan cities tend to have higher internet traffic as well. Let me know what kind of speed differences you get. Just to test out my theory.
Try using openvpn protocol once. Long shot but maybe the problem is with your router. I used to get only 10mbps speed with nordlynx till I changed my router, now I get 90-95% of my bandwidth Speed with nordlynx protocol.
Expect a reduction, I see around 50% with Nord on. Make sure that you are using the NordLynx protocol. Settings > Connections > VPN Protocol = NordLynx. When I switched to NordLynx, my Nord speeds almost quadrupled. Now, I get ~500 Mbps down and ~400 Mpbs up with Nord on vs ~950 Mbps down and ~850 Mbps up with Nord off on a gigabit plan.
Using the NordLynx protocol makes a huge difference. Also try a different server.
Didn’t work. I tried Arizona and Utah and I get the same 102mbps as my area. If I test it without the VPN I get around 500-600mbps
Openvpn (udp) gave me way better results. Up to 300mbps. What’s the downside to using that protocol?
I tested all the protocols and the 3 closes servers and lunch was by far the worst. I mean I was getting 30mbps down I went with OpenVPN (UDP) and I got up to 300mbps which I wasn’t getting before.
Wow, that is strange. My speeds JUMPED when I logged into OUT OF STATE
servers. Did you try any of the OTHER SERVERS in UTAH or PHOENIX? They
have like 5 or 6 servers in each state. I will occassionally get a
SLOW server in PHOENIX, but it does jump for me when I log into a less
populated server. Other than that, I can’t help you. Wish you luck tho
in finding a solution.
No downside, it’s actually more stable than Nordlynx. Nordlynx is nord’s wireguard interpretation, it’s fast to connect and ideal for gaming/streaming. For normal use Openvpn protocol is alright. Like I said, maybe it is your router’s problem, old routers don’t work effectively with wireguard protocol.
This is a good question I hadn’t changed the protocols
