Opera Web Browser for OS X Gains Free Unlimited VPN Feature
Nothing better than routing all your data through their network… It’s free for a reason after all.
Beware. It seems that Chinese company which bought it takes action…
Just tried it. It slows down the internet traffic a bit like almost all VPN services but it does work fine.
Note that you have to install the developer version to get this feature. It is not available in the standard version.
I hope Apple does something similar to this.
I wonder if this would get around the MLB AT Bat geolocation restriction or not… Might be time to reinstall opera and try.
My guess is it would initially and then once it goes live and the vpn gets hit hard it won’t be great for streaming media…?
Did it lose it’s built-in torrent client? The combination would prove very nice…
I’d say this is the confirmation of the new generation of browsers. The generation that will take care of our privacy now that most people don’t.
And they are going to be/are owned by a Chinese consortium.
This is sad since I love Opera in early days. I used its gestures, admire its superb render engine (before switch to blink which lost personality), perferred Opera Mini in dump phone age.
I tried installing it, and the installer killed and re-opened my Dock for some reason. Removed and not reinstalling it. 12.16 forever.
They probably mean Virtual Public Network
If you haven’t already, check out Vivaldi. It tries to be what Opera used to be.
Wow. Unessessary. I saw that, but MLB is a bitch with that shit. I’ve VPNed before with other software that confirms my IP is elsewhere and MLB still shows as blacked out.
So don’t comment on something you don’t fully understand if you have nothing productive to contribute. Thanks.
The VPN is surfeasy (based out of canada) and is a no log network: Datenschutzhinweise zu NortonLifeLock-Produkten und -Services | NortonLifeLock
It tries? It’s the same guy that made opera I think.
They use some crazy voodoo to figure out the location. I use PIA VPN and can’t get around it on cellular or wifi when in blacked out. I think they’re using methods other than just IP location to figure it out.
“Tries” was bad word choice from me, as I didn’t mean it negatively. “It aspires to be what Opera used to be, and more” might have been better, as I still feel it currently is not as great as Opera used to be. I really loved pre-Chromium Opera, and I’m really exited about Vivaldi, and I use it on my desktop.
Thanks for your input! They’ve got some crazy technology in play to get past the VPN work around. I dunno if it’s billing based or what other checks they run to figure that out, but I’d love to know.
I travel for work every week. The map always locates me to my location exactly. I think it’s just using location services or something to physically locate you.
