Lifelong Cincinnative; I have my opinions, I want to hear yours.
Taxes, housing, culture/stuff to do, schools, etc…
Cincinnati has 2 creamy whips and 1 pony keg drive through per 100 residents. Kentucky has 1 creamy whip per county and you have to get out of your car to get some beers. But I have no regrets and love it down here. Although I would love some soft serve right now.
Lived on both side of the river… live in OH now.
In KY, you pay a % sales tax on your car every year to renew your tags, but the real estate property tax is a lower % than OH.
If you live in one state and work in the other, make sure you file your taxes right. It’s a bitch if you don’t.
Car insurance, among other laws, is different in KY because it’s a no-fault state (Commonwealth).
I think Kentucky just banned pornhub. So like. That
Kentucky property (real estate) taxes CAN be significantly cheaper. Situation dependent of course. Kentucky personal property taxes absolutely blows though.
Porn and weed suckas!
I’d prioritize living on whatever side you work. The Brent Spence bridge project is not far off in the distance and it’s going to be a long headache to have to fight crossing the river.
Became a Kentuckian in the past few years and live in Bellevue. I love having a more neighborhood feel that’s CLOSER to downtown Cincinnati than the other Cincinnati neighborhoods.
Kentucky: pros: it isn’t Ohio.
Cons: it’s Kentucky
Ohio: pros: it isn’t Kentucky
Cons: it’s Ohio
I’ve lived on both sides, it really depends on your work. You should live on the same side as your work. Those bridges suck in general but when there’s a wreck on one, all of them get backed up. Not worth it.
Pro: Kentucky has 3 Dixie Chili locations, Ohio has none.
Your vote means more in Ohio.
Pro Ohio: abortion and healthcare access. We get a bunch of people from Kentucky at Ohio hospitals seeking care.
Been thinking about Bellevue/Dayton Ky a lot; and they finally re-opened the 3 miles of RT-8 that’s been closed for like a decade (easily my favorite scenic drive around Cincy)
Ohio side >> (as someone who moved here not too long ago, but long enough to see differences…KY side is slower, more country and…I can’t explain it really but after assuming it was the superior side when moving here (bc the towns are nice) it is not)) people seem more nosey and busy bodied over in KY
Ohio side you get Ohio laws which I like better than KY
I’d look into social services that you may use or may need to use in the future.
I live in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Cincinnati. But I find myself wanting to move to Bellevue. Seems to have so many things going for it. Walkability, character, proximity to downtown.
If you have kids, live in a decent school district close to your work. Everything else will pale in comparison to the reduction in stress that comes with a small commute and decent enough school.
Ohio: weed
Kentucky: no weed
