[PSA] Quick Free VPN Guide

For those that want to get your hand on Evolve really early.

  1. Navigate to Download VPN Gate Client
  2. Download Download SoftEther VPN Client + VPN Gate Client Plugin.
  3. Run the setup and select Install VPN Client.
  4. Launch Softether and double click on VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers.
  5. Connect to Australia Proxy. Using Direct TCP/IP Connection.
  6. Run the game and it’ll begin unpacking!.
  7. Voila!

p.s. if TCP does not work then change to UDP courtesy of /u/kevsaled3e

Edit - Looks like only the single player option works. Multiplayer will not work unless you are connected to a VPN.

Not working for me. Tried TCP and UDP to Australia, still says “content still encrypted.” I changed the download server to AU on steam and all that as well. Any ideas?

I got connected, it’s encrypted but when I click on start it says “Starting Game…” but it don’t start anything :c

And when I want to start it manually it says that steam_api64.dll is missing.

OP, worth making a note that if TCP does not work then change to UDP, that’s how I got mine working.

You have to have the VPN running to matchmake, but you can play solo and possibly in custom offline friend games with it disabled (open the game, disable VPN, game won’t exit).

Ping feels like 300-500, it’s pretty garbage. I’ll probably just play offline to unlock stuff with my friends until NA servers get up.

Is there any danger to having my account disabled from using a VPN to unlock the game? I’m from the US and I have it pre-loaded.

i preloaded, and the day 1 patch is ~3gb, right? so why when i start steam under the vpn does it say “doanloaded: 26.3gb / 26.4gb”

shouldnt the current be ~3gb lower that the total?

Is it possible to disconnect from the VPN during the game? I keep getting a server rejection once i’m back on my own connection

I’m getting an error when trying to connect to a server.

“Error (Error Code 2):
Protocol error occurred. Error was returned from the destination server.”

Any idea why or anyone know a fix?

I managed to get a game in so far using the VPN. I connected to Korea. There was some not insignificant lag, but it was totally playable. Making a video of my first match now.

i have never done anything like this before. How do you redirect the PS4 to Australia?

Connect the VPN, launch the game, as soon as the game starts opening up and steam says u are in Evolve, turn the VPN off. Let steam reconnect, go into Evolve, it should be sitting at the starting screen.

Once you press enter now, it logs in with your current IP instead of VPN.

6.Run the game and it’ll begin unpacking!

Alright, I’ve unpacked it, tried connecting to Australia, Korea, Offline mode, Online mode, Steam restart. Nothing. I’ll click play and nothing happens, what am I doing wrong? I haven’t done a system restart yet.

I would be very careful with this VPN - users can also connect through your connection and assume your IP. Just a warning - as I have encountered the police at my front door because of SoftEther. I also only installed it and didn’t change any of the default settings so just make sure if you do install you make sure your connection isn’t able to be accessed from the other end! Just my experience!

Assuming you are using steam - Isn’t this against Steam policy?

yupp, getting same issue

NVM, Got it working with a UDP via Korea!

Try using Korea Proxy then.

make sure steam is in offline mode when you connect your vpn

I found a few posts on google whilst searching this and the majority state that as long as you have purchased it from your own country then there is not a problem with using a VPN. I think the main gripe that Steam would have is people avoiding taxes to buy it cheaper.

the 3 gb patch is prob for consoles, the preload is most likely patched already
