I’ve been searching for a program like Ulta surf, I’ve tried tor. But from what i can tell it is only for the browser, and brings your speed to a near halt.

I had the same question like yours. I solved it some years ago, when I tried two networking methods:
- secure shell tunneling (program: openssh)
- vpn (program: openvpn)
Both programs are free software, and there are so many gratis (free of charge) services over the internet providing them. By using one of them correctly, you unblock everything. If you are wondering about how to use them in your GNU/Linux, you may read for example, the following:
PS: I finally choose the ssh tunneling one, and do it everytime everywhere because it is easier to setup (for me) compared to vpn. You will run openssh from your console, then set your browser to connect through that openssh socket, and you surf anonimously just like using UltraSurf or whatever it is. The similar thing goes with openvpn, except you don’t need to set the browser with it.
PS again: I get my ssh tunneling accounts gratis from http://fastssh.com, and my favorite gratis openvpn accounts provider is VPN Gate - Public Free VPN Cloud by Univ of Tsukuba, Japan.

Tor shouldn’t effect your speeds noticeably most of the time and it can use it with any program using torsocks
try Torbrowser also you might wanna try TAILS:
use Etcher to put TAILS ISO file on USB flashstick and boot from it.
Sounds like malware. If you’re serious about security use something like NoScript or uMatrix.
Go get a vps and install openvpn on it. This is probably too much if you are not that concerned about security etc (which you probably are not, since you were using UltraSurf). In my experience VPN provider Astrill’s client worked somewhat nice on Linux. They have 7 days trial, after that you need to pay. There are probably better VPN providers than Astrill but my only experience with a VPN client on Linux is with Astrill. Go look at /r/vpn for other alternatives. If you do not want to pay, use a service like vpnbook with OpenVPN client.
Uh… have you ever even used Ulta surf? it’s used to unblock sites…

There was a discussion yesterday about self-hosting a vpn, and how it paradoxically doesn’t provide privacy at all because you are the only user and the traffic is not “mixed”.
You should use a paid vpn service, or Tor.

Are you seriously surprised that people on /r/Linux haven’t used some obscure proprietary program that isn’t even available on the platform?!
Can’t be that silly…
Ask nicely about ways to accomplish the same thing and watch sane responses pour in…
It still sounds like malware if it takes that many resources. Use a proper VPN or proxy if you’re trying to evade a geo block.
Tbh I am no expert on security, and not really concerned about anonymity. I just do not want a random company at the other end of vpn who if malicious can just read all my traffic including passwords etc. I know respectable VPN companies with good track records exist but I already have a VPS for other self-hosted stuff, and it was easier to just put OpenVPN on it.
I kinda knew if I were to get REAL serious about anonymity/security I need to get a VPN from a good provider. Thanks for your concern and link tho, it is always interesting to read stuff like that, although I always end up hating my lazy self for not looking into and learning more about security.
It does provide some level of privacy: it hides traffic from your ISP or whoever you are accessing the internet through.
But it shows it to your other ISP (the VPS provider)…
What the hell? How did you get that from their post? Read it again, maybe?
True, but it may be the case that you trust them more than some random network that you are connected to.
hes a well know troll/shill who is in a relationship with cortana
Assuming that’s true, there’s no reason to post something like that here. Because then you get people like me who don’t know this person, who only see you going batshit crazy.
Don’t stalk people. Report them to mods when necessary; reply to actual shill comments (assuming they are). But you shouldn’t do something like you’ve done here.

Feel free to peruse my post history. You sound normal. You’ll likely recognize that I am too.
