Verizon Home blocking Redbubble images and Twitter?

I’ve been noticing recently that some web sites and images on some web sites seem to be blocked on my home network (Verizon 5G). Redbubble is the the clearest example – if I’m on my home Verizon 5G network, images won’t load on my computers or my phone. If I shut off wifi on my phone and I’m connected to Verizon 5G directly, the images load fine. If I’m on my home network on a computer or my phone and I turn on a VPN, images load fine again. The Twitter is another example, it gets stuck at “X” and doesn’t load. Has anyone else encountered this?

Do you have IP Passthrough or a DMZ turned on in the Verizon router settings? There are known issues right now with these settings causing all sorts of page loading issues.

There’s another thread that seems to have fixed this issue for some people, myself included. YMMV. https://www.reddit.com/r/verizonisp/s/mkqXF73YmP

For me, I enabled IP Passthrough on the Verizon router, adjusted the MTU setting on my TP-Link personal router (not the Verizon one), and then the sites that were having trouble loaded fine and I was able to vpn into my home network again.

Can confirm, had the same issue with IP passthrough enabled. It’s still very broken.

Are you able to set WAN MTU on your router?

MTU at 1428 + hardcoded DNS fixed it for me.

Can confirm. though I was crazy

Yes, IP passthrough to our mesh router. That must be it.

Thanks, once people mentioned it was a known problem I found that thread and started experimenting. Altering MTU helped but the pages were still loading slowly and some (specifically Verizon!) still weren’t loading. I got on chat support with Verizon for a long long time, they eventually decided that since my gateway would not upgrade to the latest 3.3.0.3 FW they were going to replace it. If I’m lucky they’ll be replacing it with something newer. And not mess with my plan.

I tried MTU settings down to 1400 on my Orbi router and Verizon.com was still not loading, other pages were very slow. I didn’t change DNS settings, I can try that if the problem continues. Verizon is sending me a warranty replacement gateway since this one won’t update to the latest firmware. It looks like it will be the same model so I guess I’ll find out if they finally have a firmware fix.

Many of us are impatiently waiting for them to fix this issue and in the meantime are not using those two features and settling for the double NAT to our own preferred routers for now.

That’s why. IP passthrough is VERY broken.

Yea, lots of other people have issues with IP passthrough.

Yeah, Verizon wasn’t loading for me either and the MTU thing fixed it.

New (maybe related?) issue is that my internet speeds have tanked lately for the last month, not even getting 5 mbps download speeds. They just sent me a new gateway, I’m hoping that resolves it and doesn’t pose other new problems.

It’s becoming a real pain, and I’m half way to just switching back to my local cable provider even though it’s more expensive.

Please come back and update when you have tried it out.

I’m there with you. Verizon was great when we got it as an emergency replacement for our AT&T internet service that was out for two weeks, so much so that we cancelled AT&T. Verizon’s current plans are pretty close to what the local cable company offers, and with the cable company I don’t have to worry about IP passthrough problems, I can use a gateway that isn’t also a router.

The replacement they sent me is way back on version 222656. IP passthrough works at least! I’m just wondering what will happen if/when it decides to update. This version allows me to try and force an update myself but it always fails so far.
