I’m mostly working in Africa for a U.S. company. I am currently using a paid plan with PIA (Private Internet Access) and connect to it via Beryl AX router using OpenVPN protocol. It works but it is very spotty. I have to restart the router several times a day to keep it working. I guess that PIA doesn’t have the greatest reputation, and many sites can detect their IP. This results in me having to constantly resolve Captchas or to prove that I’m a human, which gets quite annoying.
I’m wondering what VPN service are you guys using that you may recommend? Again, my main purpose is to reliably connect to a U.S. endpoint from Africa.
PS. I’m talking about a paid service with good reliability and high throughput that you can personally recommend. I don’t care about support for torrents and similar stuff.
PS2. In case you’re suspecting my slow connection with the local ISP. I’m getting around 100 MB/s up and down without VPN.
Use WireGuard protocol instead of OpenVPN, OpenVPN has to connect and re-connect but WireGuard just sends data, making WireGuard a more stable option for unstable networks.
windscribe was stable for me when i was overseas and connecting to the US. you can download an openvpn config from their website and use it for your router, ive used it on routers before and never had any issues. They also give you the option to purchase static ips, but the normal Pro plan should work fine.
