And can it be used instead of a vpn?
It’s a secret entry point into the network. It makes it hard for your ISP to know that you are using Tor.
See the FAQ for your first question: What is a bridge?
For your second question it depends on what your use case is.
It is mainly used to avoid censorship. If you are being censored and a bridge works then yes, you can use it instead of a VPN.
Hides tor activity at the local ISP level.
Makes it hard for anyone who is trying to sensor you internet connection to tor. eg; oppressive governments.
You don’t need to use a VPN
what about hackers on tor? Is your IP hidden
Sort of. The better word here is that it camouflages Tor traffic.
It will not prevent a vigilant eye from identifying Tor traffic if you’re subject to deep packet inspection, which is is what China does to identify and block Obfs4 bridges.
Hahahahaha. Dude you’re funny.
bro I don’t know anything ab computers or wtv lol
BRO, I genuinely don’t know that’s on god, my only objective is to enter the web wink wink (youtube)
If this is the case, show a minimum of respect and try to learn a bit, before asking questions.
It’s rude, to the people who give some of their time to help others, to ask extremely basic questions such as “what is a bridge”, which can not only be answered by a simple Google search, but are explained at length on Tor’s own website.
You pretend you don’t know anything about computers, but you know enough to create an account on Reddit, find r/TOR and make a post.
So I doubt very much you’re unable to put the words “Tor bridge” into a search engine, and start by learning for yourself, instead of askings “bros” to spoonfeed you with things they have explained a thousand times.
I doubt very much you ignore that each piece of software, such as Tor, has its own dedicated website, with its own help section, where “what is a bridge” is explained in a simple yet detailed way :
You mean the dark web? No need for winks, its not illegal to browse the dark web. Idk where you got the idea that people are going to try to hack you if you get on tor but its nonsense. Tor is an anonymity protocol that prevents websites from being able to determine your location. If anything using it makes you more difficult to hack.
I understand your point of view, there was no intention of disrespecting anybody here in this community, when I say I do not know anything about computers that means I do not know things that are related to kali linux, tails and whatsoever, I’ve asked simple questions although the obvious answer could be found but my ultra-paranoia pulls me away from thinking of the obvious, thank you for understanding.
Even visiting the bottom of the iceberg to feed our curiosity? wink wink
What is something that gets us hacked?
I don’t have a vpn, so should I bridge?
[I know you talked ab the whole misconception thing but yk, extra safety]
I’m not talking about tor itself, I’m talking places like the hidden wiki, something like the silk road, just curious about stuff
I do not know things that are related to kali linux, tails and whatsoever
You have just said you installed Tails on an USB flash drive.
This puts you in the 0.5 % top class of PC users, relative to technical knowledge (speaking figuratively, of course, not based on actual satistics).
Bottom of the iceberg is filled with child porn so I wouldn’t if I were you. Trust me there isn’t a magically secret society full of interesting things on there. Just crime. No VPN, no need for bridge unless tor is illegal in your country. The things that could get you hacked are no different on tor than on the normal internet. Downloading Malware / visiting malicious sites with JavaScript on and giving out your personally identifiable information are a few things that could result in getting hacked.
Its also not illegal to visit darkweb marketplaces. Making purchases is illegal. Hidden wiki is a scam site / sites now.
Thank you for putting me in top class but surely you haven’t understood what I meant by not knowing what a pc is, since you know I was able to get onto reddit and know how to install tails, most likely people would assume that I know how to use a pc on a regular basis, but when it comes to words like bridge tor network economical analysis perception marketing blah blah blah, I’d have to ask the professionals for such things and naturally people feel paranoid before entering the dark web
