Trying to use Proton to bypass regional blocks, got recognised by the service. I suppose I’ll have to switch VPN for this one.
Or just switch to one of the thousands of other servers Proton provides and try again.
All streaming service’s are cracking down on VPN
It’s only going to get worse, with all providers.
Companies are working hard to make VPNs as useless as possible. Smaller companies because more abuse comes from VPN addresses than others. Larger companies and governments because they are working on being as evil as possible, and destroying privacy is important to them.
VPNs are terrible for trying to circumvent region blocks on streaming sites, but amazing for privacy for other reasons.
VPNs are moreso for protecting your data from people who are not you and are not the end source. Additionally, being detected doesn’t defeat the purpose of the VPN (unless you bought it just for region blocking, in which case you can blame all the ads for saying you can, you usually can’t), since it still means the website doesn’t know who you are. They just know that ProtonVPN is trying to access their data.
Every single VPN service has this problem eventually. If nothing else, the IP addresses used by a VPN service are eventually flagged as VPN users based on the data center. You can retry different servers until you get an IP address with a better reputation, but this is unavoidable with a VPN provider
Proton is a good VPN provider overall, but something that they and every other VPN provider does is advertise circumventing streaming region blocks. To me, advertising this is a scummy tactic, because no VPN provider has any control over if they get blocked or not. That’s completely up to the streaming platform. And IPs do not get cycled nearly frequently enough to get around a block.
Maybe it’ll be different when IPv6 is more widely used because there will be an inexhaustible supply of addresses, but i wouldn’t hold my breath for that.
However the only real use for streaming over a VPN is to bypass a region block. A lot of people seem to want to watch streaming services in their own region over a VPN for “security” or “privacy”… well, Amazon already knows what you’re watching because you’re logged in and they’re serving it to you.
There are IP detection services that determine whether an IP address is associated with a VPN. You can find one of these service providers and a list of VPN providers detected on IP2Location’s VPN Provider Coverage.
You might want to consider setting up your own VPS (Virtual Private Server) and hosting your own VPN to bypass detection.
You’re using the wrong tool. That’s your issue.
This happens with all vpns
Guys, VPN company need to register their IP and have an AS number: ASN. So it’s easy to know who own what. Look https://ipinfo.io and search ASN.

Try changing to stealth mode rather then wire guard
Proton VPN gets detected all the time. My Mulvad never did.
Any site that uses Cloudflare, fails Cloudflare’s security challenge, on any of the Canadian servers today. So no ChatGPT or Perplexity for me, if I want to use Canadian servers.
VPN providers don’t use residential/commercial IPs— they use data center IPs, and are publicly known as such. Many sites block non-residential IPs to prevent abuse, region spoofing, and privacy of the end user. No way to get around this, you’ll just have to accept not using a VPN on those sites or just avoiding those sites. You may have some luck jumping around servers though as it may be blocking a specific server for abuse rather than it being a VPN server
VPNs are inherently difficult to circumvent because they usually get ISPs from a small number of IDCs.
how do sites detect a VPN?
How do some providers not get detected (if not as much) compared to others?
The worst thing I’ve come across recently is google and the play store essentially banning you from making transactions using a vpn and even after you switch it off for several hours.
For proton, try Stealth protocol. Works for me.
Really disapointing with Proton, 3 opportunities to them in different years, service still sucks, captchas everywhere, and the worst, vpn detected in every site… i tried stealth switching alkmost hundred servers and no one can let me bypass https://www.cccmypath.org/ whats the point having so thousands servers, if all are clones of the same shit?
