So, I see a lot of discussion surrounding internet privacy coming up across the internet as of late. And one of the things I see discussed is the proper way to use these internet privacy tools. VPNs and TOR being the two most discussed. When is the right time to use TOR, and what should it not be used on? I know downloads are a big no no, as it will slow down services for others, but thats about it. If you could give me a run down of the do’s and don’ts of how to use the network (for dummies), that would be flipping amazing guys.
When to Use:
- Anonymous browsing.
- Bypassing censorship.
- Accessing the dark web (.onion sites).
- Secure communication (journalism, activism).
When Not to Use:
- Downloading large files (torrents, updates).
- Logging into personal accounts.
- Banking or online shopping.
- For gaming, streaming, or speed-intensive tasks.
Tor are known to offer high level anonymity and military grade privacy,
Thank you so much. And is there any of these activities that would be better suited for a VPN? The bypassing for example. Or is TOR really a one-stop-shop for that? I mainly only use a VPN for torrenting atm.
Disagree. Use Tor for everything and anything. I don’t mind if you download huge files on my exit relays, that’s fine.
Thank you. You guys are the Diogenes of the Internet.
I cant help with that. I have no idea. Sorry (
depends. If Tor works it’s ok. You mean private VPN or public
Generally, when you use TOR you’d also want to use a VPN to avoid issues with your ISP.
meaning we are destined to hold our breath until we die?
Unless you’re in a repressive country, there is no need to use a VPN with Tor unless your ISP specifically prohibits it – which is virtually unheard of in western society at least.
Oh really? See I keep getting mixed messages on this. Some people say that it will draw more attention to my activities and that I should just try to blend into the crowd. Is that only for normal, everyday web browsing and I just misread it?
And does any of this matter on a prepaid mobile network?
no it means y’all based as hell
