WireGuard VPN Blocked?

I have a private wireguard VPN server that I set up on a raspberry pi long ago in the US that has worked flawlessly all over the world with a portable VPN router I use as the client. I did this specifically to have a residential IP address that always has me in the same place. It actually worked in Egypt fine in May 2021.

I realize that Egypt has blocked wireguard protocol all together. Has anyone been able to circumvent using another port or something?

I’ve been able to use expressVPN and even set up multiple free openvpn servers using all the major US cloud providers but the IP addresses are still recognized as VPN or shared services IPs.

It would be great to be able to use the WireGuard server I have set up (my friend can change settings server side) but if not does anyone have any solutions to get a US residential IP address?

It’s killing me because I was visiting a friend at a resort in Sharm and the TE data connection there had IP addresses for a lot of European countries and the US and my WireGuard connection worked fine. It’s crazy.

Oh no! Don’t say!

I just promised friends that I was going to set something like this for them.

Keep us posted on what you find out.

But what do you mean with:

in Sharm and the TE data connection there had IP addresses for a lot of European countries and the US

Thanks for this. I’ll try to make some changes and see how it goes.
I don’t mind paying at all. The important thing is to have a truly dedicated residential IP which is hard to find.

Well I was able to use my wireguard connection there which I was surprised by. I did an IP lookup (using ipleak . net) and there were IPs from many countries. Not sure if the 2 are even related but I thought it was interesting.

My guess is there are many guests that needed to check in on work or even bank while in Egypt and the tech admin came up with a solution. It does seem like WE offers IP Transit and IP VPN services to businesses just checking their website. I’m not a networking expert but it’s something I’m digging into.
