I have malwarebytes and bit defender (both free). Any thing else I should add?
You honestly don’t need 2 AVs
Please don’t rely on windows defender like some people claim those are usually the people that eventually get infected. I fix computers for a living over the past few years out of the many hundreds of infected machines customers have brought in for me to clean infections probably 60% of them were using windows defender not only did they get infected often times defender would not even detect anything but when you run a scan with something better like bitdefender you see the reality.
Have a look at this subreddit and you will see for yourself most people posting about getting infected are using… windows defender.
Bitdefender is a great antivirus with real time protection. Malwarebytes is a great second opinion scanner.
You can always add a VPN for browsing. A free one that is decent is ProtonVPN. Otherwise I’d go with NordVPN or Surfshark.
An ad blocker is also good for protection and to improve your user experience online. I’d recommend uBlock Origin.
And anyone recommending Windows Defender is not to be listened to.
Keep Bitdefender as it has real time protection, malware bytes only has real time protection for 30 days, after this time you can use it as a second option scanner. Windows defender is not very good, but better than nothing. Just disable real time protection in malware bytes as it clashes with the real time protection in bitdefender. Search you tube for ‘The pc security channel’ watch the antivirus / antimalware videos and make up your own mind, all I know is bitdefender is much better than malware bytes. Good luck, hope this helps.
Malwarebytes is mid tier for cleaning up an actively infected system but there are better tools nowadays. It’s only around anymore because it had a stellar reputation from the old days.
Bitdefender is a really solid product but it doesn’t play well with certain games and can cause a pc to lock up for a minute or two during gameplay while it overthinks things.
Bitdefender is overkill for most people. If defender can’t protect you, you don’t have the skills to be using a windows computer. Consider an iPad or a Chromebook.
total av vpn is the worst I ever had…DON NOT BUY…it almost never connect, u have to delete and install again…this is crap, waste of money…I live in las vegas , don’t buy, express best
Sadly Windows Defender alone without any configuration can be easily bypassed by the user, Windows Defender itself blocks everything malicious but people usually think it’s a false positive and allow threads, disable it entirely before installing cracked software… of course they will get infected, the software is partially disabled.
Look at the github repository called Harden Windows Security, tell me if Defender do not have all features of Bitdefender and Malwarebytes or more.
Of course the OP will decide which solution works better for him, my recommendation is using the official security solution made from the company behind the development of the operating system itself, which will have the better integration and performance.
If you are someone who uses common sense and stays away from random sites and downloading random shit then Malwarebytes and windows defender will be good enough.
If you go on some sus sites then bit defender will definitely be the go to with their real time defender. But has its own pros and cons. Just depends what you’re using the computer for.
emsisoft kit https://www.emsisoft.com/en/home/emergency-kit/
If you’re really scared I guess you could turn on periodic scanning on windows defender
remove bit defender and dont add anything on top. you dont want to run anything else but windows defender
Malware Bytes isn’t a AV unless you pay for it I’m pretty sure.
I’m getting a lot of mixed results. What do I do?
A fully setup Windows Defender can really take have a higher detection rate than any third-party AV, check the GitHub repository called Harden Windows Security, Windows Defender has a LOT more to offer that what is showed in it’s user interface (Windows Security).
Just use common sense and you don’t need a third-party antivirus
I love when people refer to TSPC, he needs to be recommended more in this thread with so many uneducated people.
I have been hearing a lot that bit defender is really good.
Correct Free Malwarebytes is only a scanner, Keep using Bitdefender for Real-time Protection and you will be set!. Like others mentioned windows defender is NOT very good. Your current setup using Bitdefender is perfectly fine.
Like I say just simply decide for yourself , look through people’s posts on the antivirus subreddit and you will see most are using windows defender that’s why they are infected. Your setup right now is perfectly fine using bitdefender no need to stress.
Yeah, it is. Bitdefender ranks as a top antivirus product with Kaspersky. It has decent protection capabilities that will be able to detect even the most stealthy threats, and the free version offers enough good protection.
Windows Defender is not a good option, at least not yet. A lot of malware creators knows how vulnerable Windows Defender is and how to bypass it. Don’t listen to anyone saying you should use Windows Defender alone.
